Snack Time

Okay, can I just crop this and let you see the apple and the handle of the cup? Please? 

So yeah, this is my newest still life and I must say it's crap! The only good part about it is the apple and the handle of my mug. Everything else suuuuuuuuuuucks. In my terrible defense, this is the first time I've used pastels. It's a weird thought really. I mean I've used oil pastels and I've used Conte crayon, which could kind of be like a pastel in it's on crayony way, but it's weird that this is the first time I've used this medium before...and clearly it shows! 

I think my biggest problem is the cup. The rim of the cup looks like it's facing towards you but the back of the cup looks like it's in perspective, so it just looks bent and awkward. That and I'm not crazy about the background. I completely made up the wood and the dotty wall because I had no plan for the background. I was a bit surprised that my teacher liked the wall because he said it looked painterly, psh, whatever I guess. It still bugged me to death. 

Anyway, so there you have it for this still life. One more project in this class and I'm done. Crazy how the time flies...
